3. Marado ferry ‘deviated from normal route’
No injuries in Monday incident

Investigators say the ferry that hit a rock and began taking on water around Marado Monday was 400 meters off its normal course.

All passengers and crew members were safely rescued shortly after the incident.

The Seogwipo Coast Guard is investigating. It says the 46-year-old captain of the Blue Ray, surnamed Ko, says winds and waves forced him off the regular route for the vessel and that it struck a rock while trying to get back on that course.

If the coast guard concludes that the captain was negligent in his piloting of the ferry, he will be charged with professional negligence leading to damage of a vessel.

마라도 사고 여객선, 기존 항로 벗어나

지난 24일 발생한 마라도 여객선 침수 사고와 관련해 해당 여객선이 사고 당시 기존 항로에서 400m 가량 떨어져 운항한 것으로 확인됐습니다.

서귀포해양경찰서에 따르면 사고선박 블루레이호 선장 46살 고 모 씨를 상대로
조사를 벌인 결과 바람과 조류에 의해 기존항로에서 벗어났고 다시 기존 항로로 이동하던 중 암초에 부딪힌 것으로 드러났습니다.

해경은 추가 조사를 통해 과실이 인정되면 고 씨를 업무상 과실선박파괴 혐의로 입건할 예정입니다.
