1. Amendments to law regarding Jeju issues failed to pass assembly
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the tragedy

The amendments to both the Special Act regarding the Jeju April Third Incident and the Special Act on Jeju Special Self-Governing Province failed to pass the assembly.

The National Assembly passed 83 proposed bills on December 27th at the last plenary session of this year.

Unfortunately, they didn’t include the amendments to the Special Act on the April Third Incident and the Special Act on Jeju Province. The amendment to the Special Act on the April Third Incident includes compensation for damages due to the tragedy, and the amendment to the Special Act on Jeju Province includes land for designating Gotzawal environmental protection zones and expansion of local hiring.


Since this year marks the 70th anniversary of the tragedy, the amendment to the Special act on April Third Incident has received attention across the whole country and its failure to pass has been met with increased disappointment.

4·3 특별법·제주특별법 개정안 결국 무산

제주 4.3 특별법과 제주특별자치도 특별법 개정안이 이렇다할 소득없이 결국 해를 넘기게 됐습니다.

국회는 27일 올해 마지막 본회의를 열어 83건의 법안을 처리했습니다.

하지만 4.3 피해자 등에 대한 배보상을 담은 제주 4.3 특별법과

곶자왈 보호지역 지정 근거와 지역인재 채용 대상 확대 등 6단계 제도개선안을 담은 제주특별법 개정안은 포함되지 않았습니다.

특히 4.3 특별법은 올해 70주년을 맞아 전국적인 관심을 불러일으켰지만 국회 통과에 실패하면서 아쉬움으로 남고 있습니다.
