5. New variety of mandarin orange developed
‘Gaeulhyang’ planned for distribution to growers in 2022

Local researchers have developed a new variety of mandarin orange.

Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Services has filed an application with the Korea Seed and Variety Service to protect the new citrus type, which it calls (가을향) gaeulhyang.

Gaeulhyang is completely colored by the end of October and can be harvested around mid-November. It weighs around 200 grams, and it has sugar content of 13 degrees brix and acidity below 0.8 percent. Growers say it’s easier to peel and that its peel has fewer problems than the (황금향) hwanggeumhyang variety.

The agricultural institute plans to plant 8,000 (가을향) gaeulhyang trees this year, so that it can begin distributing them to area farmers in 2022.

감귤 신품종 '가을향' 개발…2022년 보급

11월과 12월에 출하되는 새로운 만감류 감귤 '가을향'이 개발됐습니다.

제주도농업기술원은 최근 국립종자원에 새롭게 개발한 만감류 '가을향'을 품종보호 출원했습니다.

가을향은 10월 하순쯤 완전 착색돼 11월 중순 수확하게 되는 품종으로
과실의 무게는 200g 내외, 당도 13브릭스, 산함량 0.8% 이하를 지니는게 특징입니다.

특히, 황금향보다 껍질을 벗기기가 쉽고 과피 장해가 적은게 장점으로 꼽힙니다.

농업기술원은 올해 묘목 8천그루를 육성해 2022년부터 농가 실증재배를 거쳐
확대 보급한다는 계획입니다.
