5. Ban on use of disposable plastic bags
Large retailers, supermarkets, bakeries may no longer offer them

Beginning this year, large retailers and supermarkets are no longer allowed to use disposable plastic bags.

Exceptions are allowed for damp food, such as fish and meat.

Bakeries are no longer allowed to provide plastic bags for free, either. They had not been included in the businesses that were required to minimize usage.

There is a grace period for the new rules through the end of March, during which time Jeju City officials will get the word out about the changes. After that, violators will face fines of up to three million won.


1회용 비닐봉투 사용금지…4월부터 과태료

올해부터 대규모 점포와 슈퍼마켓에서는 1회용 비닐봉투 사용이 금지됩니다.

다만, 생선이나 고기 등 수분이 있는 제품을 담기 위한 비닐봉투 사용은 예외로 인정됩니다.

또 비닐봉투 사용억제 대상업종에 포함되지 않았던 제과점은 비닐봉투 무상제공이 금지됩니다.

제주시는 이에따라 오는 3월까지 홍보와 현장계도 기간을 운영하고 4월부터는 적발시 최대 300만원 이하의 과태료를 부과할 방침입니다.
