Province to investigate businesses that owe workers money
Employers owe local workers a growing amount of back pay.
According to the Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Administration, overdue wages totaled 11.9 billion won last year. That’s nearing twice the total from 2017, which was 6.7 billion.
The number of business locations at which wages were past due grew 67 percent over the year, while the number of unpaid workers grew 7 percent.
The province will pay everything owed for government-ordered construction before the Lunar New Year holidays. It will also investigate the conditions at businesses who owe their employees back pay.
체불임금 큰 폭 증가…지난해 119억원
제주도내 체불임금 규모가 크게 늘고 있습니다.
광주지방고용노동청에 따르면 지난해 발생한 체불임금액은 119억원으로 2017년 67억원에 비해 두배 가까이 급증했습니다.
체불임금 사업장과 임금을 받지 못한 근로자도 전년 대비 각각 67%와 7% 늘었습니다.
제주도는 설 연휴 전에 관급공사 대금을 미리 지급하고 체불 사업장에 대한 실태조사도 실시할 계획입니다.
