2. Farmers agree to discard 10% of cabbage crop
About 9,000 tons will be destroyed as prices drop

Cabbage farmers have enacted measures to control the supply of the vegetable as prices tumble due to overproduction.

The Jeju Nonghyup Western Vegetable Council and the Jeju Cabbage Distribution Control Committee convened a meeting Monday with cabbage growers. Attendees resolved to voluntarily discard at least ten percent of their crops.

They will destroy about 9,000 tons of cabbage being grown on about 165 hectares.

Cabbage prices fell to about 538 won per kilogram last month. That’s 36 percent lower than a year before and 12 percent below average.
양배추 재배물량 10% 자율폐기 추진

양배추 생산농가들이 과잉생산으로 가격이 하락하고 있는 양배추 수급조절에 나섰습니다.

제주농협양채류협의회와 제주양배추출하조절위원회는 21일 양배추 생산농가들과 함께 자율감축 결의대회를 열고 양배추 재배물량의 10% 이상을 산지폐기하기로 했습니다.

물량으로는 재배면적 165ha에 9천톤 규모입니다.

지난달 양배추 평균 가격은 8kg에 4천3백원대로 전년보다 36%, 평년보다 12% 낮은 가격에 거래됐습니다.
