2. Higher rewards for reporting election violations
Jeju Election Commission will pay up to ￦300m

Beginning with national union elections this March, authorities are increasing the rewards substantially for people who report election violations.

The Jeju Election Commission says it is working harder to stamp out illegal activities around the upcoming holidays. The violations it is targeting include handing out presents or valuables as well as pre-electioneering for the votes in March.

The commission hopes to encourage more people to report violations regarding the national union elections by boosting the maximum reward for doing so from 100 million won to 300 million won.

Anyone who is caught accepting valuables will be fined up to 50 times the value of the items. That fine will be waived, however, if the person turns him- or herself in.

오는 3월 실시되는 전국 동시 조합장선거부터 선거범죄 신고포상금이 대폭 확대됩니다.

제주도선거관리위원회는 설 명절을 전후로 조합장선거와 관련한 금품이나 선물 제공, 사전 선거운동 등 위법행위 단속을 강화합니다.

특히 종전까지 최고 1억 원이던 선거범죄 신고포상금을 이번 선거부터 최고 3억 원으로 인상해 신고나 제보를 활성화한다는 방침입니다.

금품을 받은 사람에게는 최고 50배 과태료를 부과하는 한편, 금품을 받은 사람이 자수할 경우 과태료를 면제하기로 했습니다.
