Up 10.8% last year

Area residents and tourists boarded public transit in Jeju more than 60 million times last year.

The province’s big data analysis of ridership puts last year’s tally at about 62.5 million. That’s 10.8 percent more than the year before.

It’s the first time the total has topped 60 million since 2000.

Provincial representatives say the increase is the result of a revamp to the public transit system that expanded bus routes and increased the number of times the buses run.

제주도내 대중교통 연간 이용객이 6천만명을 돌파했습니다.

제주도는 대중교통 관련 빅데이터를 분석한 결과 지난해 대중교통 이용객은 6천245만여명으로 전년보다 10.8% 증가했다고 밝혔습니다.

제주에서 연간 대중교통 이용객이 6천만명을 넘어선 것은 2000년대 들어 이번이 처음입니다.

제주도는 대중교통체계 개편 이후 버스 노선 확대와 운행횟수 증가 등이 이용객 증가에 영향을 미친 것으로 분석했습니다.
