Tuesday naturalization ceremony at Jeju Immigration Office

Jeju has held its first first naturalization ceremony for new Korean citizens since a revision to the Nationality Act.

The Jeju Immigration Office presented certificates of nationality to 20 people Tuesday, including nine originally from Vietnam, and welcomed them to Korean society as full citizens.

According to the revised Nationality Act, beginning this year, people seeking either naturalization as new Korean citizens or the recovery of previous Korean nationality must take an oath in front of Minister of Justice.

귀화자 20명에 국적증서 수여

국적법 개정으로 제주에서 처음으로 귀화자에 대한 국적증서 수여식이 열렸습니다.

제주출입국 외국인청은 29일 오후 국적증서 수여식을 열고 베트남 출신 9명 등 대한민국 국적을 취득한 20명에 대해 국적증서를 수여하며 대한민국 국민으로서의 첫 출발을 축하하는 자리를 가졌습니다.

개정된 국적법으로 올해부터는 귀화자와 국적회복자는 법무부 장관 앞에서 직접 국민선서를 하고 국적증서를 수여해야 대한민국 국적을 취득할 수 있습니다.
