5. Pilot school to be selected for IB program
Rural high school will be chosen as early as September

The provincial education office will select a pilot school for the International Baccalaureate program by September at the earliest.

The director of policy planning at the office, (강승문) Gang Seung-moon, said at a Tuesday briefing that authorities are discussing with the IB office the translation of the IB curriculum into Korean and other issues. He said his office would then select a local high school for the program in the second half of this year.

The school will be in either an “eup” or a “myeon” administrative district.
If the plan goes according to schedule, the IB curriculum will be introduced when students now in their second year of middle school enter high school.

The provincial education office says students who complete the IB program will not have to take the college scholastic ability test, and that they will be able to apply for college through rolling admissions without minimum grade requirements.

IB 학교 이르면 9월 선정…중 2학년 첫 적용

제주도교육청이 국제 교육과정인 IB도입을 추진중인 가운데 이르면 오는 9월 시범학교를 선정합니다.

강승문 제주도교육청 정책기획과장은 29일 브리핑을 통해 현재 IB사무국과의 한글화 협의 등이 순조롭게 진행중으로 올 하반기에 IB운영 고등학교 선정 작업을 마무리 할 방침이라고 밝혔습니다.

IB 운영학교는 읍,면지역 고등학교 1군데를 운영할 예정으로 계획대로라면
현재 중학교 2학년부터 적용됩니다.

교육청은 IB 교육 프로그램을 받는 학생들은 수능을 치루지 않고 수능 최저등급 없는 수시 전형을 통해 대학에 진학하게 될 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
