Jeju farmers band together to boost inter-Korean cooperation

Jeju farmers have established an inter-Korean exchange movement with the goal of providing tractors to their counterparts in North Korea.

Movement members announced the group’s establishment Wednesday at a press conference in front of the provincial council building. They vowed to create a new era of inter-Korean cooperation and exchanges and to work toward unification with North Korean farmers.

The group plans to donate one tractor from Jeju to North Korea, and eventually send 100 tractors from across the nation. It is also discussing the resumption of mandarin shipments to the north and the building of a mandarin processing plant there.

"北에 통일 트랙터 지원…농업 품앗이"

도내 농민들로 구성된 '통일 농기계 품앗이와 제주농업 남북교류협력운동본부'가 결성돼 북한에 트랙터 지원사업을 추진합니다.

운동본부는 29일 도의회 앞에서 기자회견을 열고 남북농민이 함께 통일의 첫 삽을 뜨고 교류협력의 새로운 장을 만들겠다며 출범을 선언했습니다.

운동본부는 감귤 보내기 사업 재개와 감귤 가공공장 설립을 북측과 협의하는 한편,
제주에서 통일 트랙터 1대를 포함해 전국적으로 100대를 사들여 북측에 보낼 계획입니다.
