3. Fewer people moving to Jeju from elsewhere in country
Total falls short of 10,000 for first time in 5 years

For the first time in five years, fewer than 10,000 people in one year have moved to the island from other parts of the country.

Statistics Korea says only 8,853 people moved to Jeju last year. The tally had topped 10,000 since 2014, when it hit 11,112.

1,038 people moved to Jeju in January 2018, 766 came in June, and only 47 in December.

Analysts say that’s evidence that the rush to Jeju that began in 2010 is petering out.

제주 이주인구 5년 만에 1만명 이하로 떨어져

다른 지역에서 제주로 이주해 오던 인구가 5년만에 처음으로 1만명 아래로 떨어졌습니다.

통계청에 따르면 지난해 제주지역 순유입 인구는 8천 853명으로 지난 2014년 1만1천112명을 기록한 이후 처음으로 1만명을 넘지 못했습니다.

지난해 월별 순유입 인구는 1월 1천38명을 기록한 후 6월에는 766명, 12월에는 47명에 그쳤습니다.

이에 따라 지난 2010년부터 이어졌던 이주열풍이 한풀 꺾인 것으로 분석되고 있습니다.
