Jeju responding to Seoul’s action on facility

As the national government’s push to build the island’s second airport picks up speed, the provincial government is working on securing the operating rights for the new facility.

The land ministry has started formulating a basic plan for the airport, so local officials say they plan to hire an agency Monday to determine how to secure the operating rights.

Researchers will be also charged with developing a step-by-step plan by November to secure the rights for both of island's airports and improve the overall system related to the process.

The land ministry’s basic plan for the airport will come out in June, and the provincial office aims to have this research complete by then. It will then discuss details with the ministry before finalizing the plan by November.

제주도, '공항 운영권' 확보 추진…용역 발주

정부가 제2공항 건설에 속도를 내는 가운데 제주도가 공항 운영권 확보에 나섭니다.

제주도는 국토부가 최근 제2공항 기본계획 수립에 나섬에 따라 25일 제주지역 공항 운영권 참여 방안 연구용역을 발주한다고 밝혔습니다.

이번 용역은 11월까지 진행되며 기존 공항과 제2공항을 포함한 공항 운영권 참여 방안을 비롯해 이를 위한 단계별 전략과 제도개선 방안을 마련할 계획입니다.

제주도는 운영권 참여 기본구상이 마련되는대로 국토부 기본계획이 종료되는 6월 이전에 반영하고, 용역이 마무리되는 11월에는 국토부와 협의해 세부사항을 보완할 방침입니다.
