Jeju now grows 26% of Korean crop

The amount of local farmland dedicated to white radishes has increased by more than tenfold since the year 2000.

According to a recent report by the provincial council’s policy research division, the cultivation area for white radishes grew from 604 hectares in 2000 to 6,275 hectares in 2017.

Jeju now grows 26 percent of the Korean crop.

White radishes also account for 26 percent of the money earned by local farmers through vegetable sales. Next is garlic at 17 percent, cabbage at 12 percent, and carrots at 10 percent.

2000년 이후 제주지역 월동무 재배면적이 10배 이상 늘어난 것으로 조사됐습니다.

제주도의회 정책연구실이 발간한 '제주 농업 현황과 정책보완과제' 보고서에 따르면 지난 2000년 604ha에 불과했던 제주 월동무 재배면적은 2017년 6천275ha로 10.4배 늘어났습니다.

특히 전국 월동무의 26%는 제주에서 생산하는 것으로 조사됐습니다.

제주산 채소류의 품목별 조수입 비중은 무가 26%로 가장 높았고 마늘 17%, 양배추 12%, 당근 10% 등의 순으로 나타났습니다.
