Governor seeks support from Jeju’s representatives at National Assembly

The governor and Jeju’s three National Assembly members convened for a policy consultation meeting Monday at the Provincial Office.

In his opening speech, Governor Won Hee-ryong asked the national lawmakers for help in resolving local conflicts, like those involving the planned construction of a second airport, and in securing national funding.

(강창일) Kang Chang-il, (오영훈) Oh Young-hun, and (위성곤) Wi Seong-gon said that transparency is paramount in the process of building the new airport. They emphasized that the land ministry and the provincial government should not push forward with the project unilaterally.

(오영훈) Oh Young-hun then expressed deep disappointment that the governor had permitted the establishment of the nation’s first for-profit hospital, even though most islanders surveyed were against it. He added that the province should formulate a policy to deal with the eventuality that the hospital does not meet stated requirements by March 4th.

The four men also discussed national funding for local projects, amendments to the April 3rd Special Law, and other pressing issues.

이 자리에서 원희룡 지사는 모두발언을 통해 제2공항 등 여러 갈등 현안 해결과 내년도 국비 확보를 위한 중앙 절충과정에서 지역 국회의원들의 적극적인 협조를 요청했습니다.

강창일, 오영훈, 위성곤 의원은 제2공항은 절차적 투명성 확보가 먼저 이뤄져야 한다며 제주도와 국토부가 일방적으로 사업을 추진해선 안된다고 강조했습니다.

오영훈 의원은 공론조사 결정을 뒤집은 도지사의 영리병원 허가 결정에 유감을 표명하면서 3월 4일 청문절차에서 병원 개원 요건을 갖추지 못하면 제주도가 정책적 결정을 내려야 한다고 덧붙혔습니다.

25일 진행된 정책협의회에서는 내년도 주요 사업 국비 확보 진행 상황과 4.3 특별법 개정안 등 제도개선 사항 등이 논의됐습니다.
