6. Farmers face harsher penalties for illegal disposal of manure
City of Jeju will suspend farms in violation of law

The City of Jeju will be handing down harsher administrative punishments to livestock farmers who illegally dispose of livestock manure. These actions will take place in order to prevent further groundwater pollution.

The current penalty for the illegal disposal of livestock manure is a monetary fine, but for future violations, the City is prepared to immdiately suspend operation in addition to more severe penalties.

Four businesses were penalized in 2018 with a combined fine of 140 million won, and just this year, two businesses have been fined a total of 29.8 million won.

제주시는 지금까지 가축분뇨를 적정하게 처리하지 않은 농가에 대해
대부분 과징금을 처분했었지만
앞으로 사용중지 이상의 처분을 내리기로 했습니다.

축산농가에 경각심은 물론
지하수 오염을 예방하기 위한 차원입니다.

제주시는 지난해
축산분뇨를 무단 배출한 4군데 농가에 대해
과징금 1억 4천만원을,
올해도 2곳에 2천 980만원을 부과했습니다.
