1. Domestic airlines planned to operate Boeing 737 Max 8
114 aircraft were to be adopted by four airlines

Lawmaker Hong Chul-ho (홍철호) of the National Assembly has confirmed that four domestic airlines had planned to operate a combined total of 114 Boeing 737 Max 8s starting April of this year through the year 2027.

The Max 8 has been in hot waters since being involved in 2 deadly crashes within the past 6 months.

The four airlines include Jeju Air with the largest number of Max 8s at 56, Korean Air with 30, followed by Eastar Jet at 18. T'way Air came in fourth, with a plan to purchase 10 of the controversial aircraft.

Eastar Jet has already purchased their Max 8s, but has decided to ground the planes due to the current safety concerns.

제주항공, 안전문제 '보잉 737' 도입 논란

제주항공이
최근 안전성 문제로 운항이 중단된
보잉 737 맥스 8 항공기 50여대를
도입하려 했던 것으로 확인됐습니다.

국회 홍철호 의원에 따르면
국내 항공사 4 곳은
2027년까지 해당 항공기 114대를
도입할 계획이었습니다.

항공사별로는
제주항공이 56대로 가장 많고
대한항공 30대,
이스타항공 18대, 티웨이항공 10대 순이었습니다.

한편 이미 해당 항공기를 도입한
이스타항공은 기체 결함 우려로
운항 중단을 결정했습니다.
