2. MAKRI holds briefing on remains recovery operation
Two-day session includes wartime testimonies from war veterans

The Ministry of National Defense Agency for Killed In Action Recovery and Identification, or MAKRI, has held a briefing session in Jeju on March 20-21 concerning the excavation of remains.

MAKRI analyzed the progress of recovery operations and gave instructions on how to collect DNA samples from relatives of victims. Wednesday’s briefing examined Jeju City, specifically.

War veterans from Jeju were also given an opportunity to tell their stories. Emotional wartime tragedies and vivid descriptions of battles were shared.
Two thousand men from Jeju fought in the Korean War, of which over 1,200 are still classified as missing in action.

유가족 DNA 샘플 채취 참여 방법을 설명했습니다.

또 제주출신 참전용사가 직접
당시의 생생한 전투경험과
전우를 전장에 두고 올 수 밖에 없었던
안타까운 사연 등
다양한 증언을 듣기도 했습니다.

6.25 전쟁 당시 제주 출신 전사자는 2천여명이며
이 가운데 1천 300여명의 시신은 아직 찾지 못하고 있습니다.
