1. 4.3 Revision Bill to include harsher penalties for defamation
Offenders can face up to 7 years jail time or \70mil fine

Lawmaker Wi Seong-gon (위성곤) of the Democratic Party of Korea has proposed a revision to the Jeju April 3rd Incident Special Law to strengthen the punishment for misrepresentation and slander of the April Third Incident.

The revised proposal includes penalties of up to 7 years of jail time or a fine of up to 70 million won for spreading fake news.

Lawmaker Wi pledged to make greater efforts to pass the revision bill, stating that distorting history is an action that should be strongly punished.

제주4.3의 왜곡과 비방 행위에 대한
처벌을 강화하는 내용의 4.3특별법 일부개정법률안을
대표발의 했습니다.

개정안에는
제주4.3을 비방하거나
왜곡, 또는 가짜뉴스 등의 허위사실을
유표했을 경우 7년 이하의 징역 또는
7천만 원 이하 벌금에 처하도록 했습니다.

위성곤 의원은
4.3의 역사적 진실을 훼손하는 행위는 강력히
처벌해야 한다며 개정안 통과를 위해
최선을 다하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
