Approval processing period too long to grant actual uniforms

The ordinance regarding the provision of students’ school uniforms has been passed by the provincial government on March 22nd. It is prospected that cash is likely to be offered instead of uniforms.

The Jeju Office of Education says it will be difficult to offer physical uniforms this year because of a maximum 60 day approval processing period at the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The province is instead considering a provision of 350,000 won in cash, to be paid in June.

The Jeju office added that an agreement has already been made with the uniform manufacturing companies for physical uniforms, but it will be delayed until next year.


무상교복 지원 조례 지연…올해는 현금 지급

제주 학생들에게 무상으로 교복을 제공하기 위한 조례안이
22일 제주도의회 본회의 처리를 앞둔 가운데
올해는 교복 대신 현금으로 지원될 전망입니다.

제주도교육청에 따르면 교복 구매 지원을 위한 근거는 마련됐지만
최대 60일까진 보건복지부 승인 기간을 감안하면 올해
교복 현물을 지원하는 것이 불가능할 것으로 보고 있습니다.

이에 따라 이르면 오는 6월 35만원 가량의 교복 구입비를
현금으로 지원하는 것으로 검토하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

제주도교육청은 그동안 무상교복 지원방식으로 현금을 선호했던
제주지역 교복 제작업체들과 협의를 통해 현물 지원에
합의했다고 덧붙였습니다.
