4. Province plans to adopt new means of public transportation
Will strategize to increase public transport share by over 15%

The provincial government is renewing plans to introduce new forms of public transportation after an unsuccessful attempt in 2011.

The province included the new proposal in the mid-term plan for Urban Transportation Maintenance. The proposal states that the new form of transportation will launch in 2023 and include a 14 kilometer route that will travel from the Jeju International Airport in a latitudinal direction.

Streetcars and monorail were in consideration, but the streetcar is showing the most promise as a leading candidate, as the cost estimate is the lowest at 300 billion won.

The province plans to increase the island’s public transport shares from the current 15 percent to over 30 percent by adopting new transportation means.

도시교통정비 중기계획에
2023년부터 신교통수단을
도입하는 방안을
포함시켰습니다.

노선은 제주공항을 기점으로
동서부 14km 구간으로
트램과 노면전차, 모노레일 가운데
사업비가 3천억 원으로 가장 적은
트램을 유력하게 검토하고 있습니다.

제주도는 신교통수단 도입으로
현재 15% 내외인 대중교통 수송분담률을
30% 이상으로 높인다는 계획입니다.
