3. Ceremony at Haewon Bangsatop marks 71st anniversary of 4·3
The stone tower was built in 1998 to acknowledge victims
The ceremony of Haewon Stone Pagoda or (해원방사탑)Haewon Bangsatop marking the 71st anniversary of the April 3rd Incident was held at (신산)Shinsan Park in Jeju City on the morning of April 1st.
The ceremony was held to wish for the complete resolution of the April 3rd Incident.
The event was hosted by the April 3rd Survivors’ Association. About 100
participants included the previously convicted survivors acquitted in the recent retrial and other interested parties.
(양동윤)Yang Dong-yun, head of the Association said he will push for the pending issues of the April 3rd incident such as passing the revision bill of the April 3rd Special Law.
Jeju City mayor (고희범) Go Hee-beom pledged through his funeral oration to change Haetae Hill Road in ShinJeju to its original name “(도령모루) Doryeongmoru”. Dozens of people were confirmed to have been slaughtered at this place.
Haewon Bangsatop was built in 1998 using stones from all over the Jeju Island, marking the 50th anniversary of the April 3rd Incident. It was built to ease the pain of the victims.

1일 오전 제주시 신산공원에서 열렸습니다.
제주4·3도민연대 주최로 열린 행사에는
최근 재심에서
사실상 무죄 판결을 받은
생존 수형인과 관계자 등 100여명이 참석했습니다.
이 자리에서 양동윤 대표는
앞으로 4·3 특별법개정안 통과 등
아직까지 풀지 못한 4.3 과제들을
해결하기 위해 노력하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
고희범 제주시장은 추도사를 통해
4·3 당시 수십명이 학살된 것으로 확인된
신제주 해태동산을
옛 이름인 '도령모루'로 되돌리겠다고 약속했습니다.
한편 해원방사탑은 4·3 50주년인 지난 1998년,
4·3 희생자들의 원혼을 달래기 위해
제주 전역에서 모아 온 돌멩이 쌓아 올린 탑입니다.
