3. National Police Agency Chief attends 4.3 memorial for the first time
Many government officials and citizens gathered at the Gwanghwamun Plaza in Seoul

A ceremony commemorating the Jeju April 3rd Incident was held at Gwanghwamun Plaza, Wednesday in addition to the Jeju April 3rd Peace Park. This year marks the first time that the Chief of the National Police Agency attended the event.


The Jeju April 3rd National Committee, the Jeju April 3rd Peace Foundation and Seoul government worked together to organize the event. Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon and many citizens visited to lay flowers and burn incense to pay their respects.

The presence of Police Chief Min Gap-ryong drew public attention as it was the first time for the head of the National Police Agency to join the ceremony. He left a note deeply expressing his condolences to victims of the tragedy.

민갑룡 경찰청장이 참석했습니다.

3일 서울 광화문 광장에서 열린 추념식은
제주 4·3범국민위원회와
제주 4·3평화재단, 서울특별시가 공동 주최한 가운데
박원순 서울시장 등
많은 시민들이 찾아 헌화와 분향을 통해 희생자들의 넋을 기렸습니다.

특히 경찰 수장으로는 처음으로
민갑룡 경찰청장이 참석해 눈길을 끌었고
민 청장은 방명록에
4·3 당시 무고하게 희생된 모든 분들의 영전에
머리 숙여 애도한다는 글귀를 남겼습니다.
