5. Outdoor mandarin oranges germinate late
Sprouting season varies by region

The Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Services found that this year’s sprouting season for mandarin oranges grown outdoors is late.

The research center investigated 12 areas and found that the plants sprouted on April 10, five days later than last year.

There were huge regional differences in sprouting dates of mandarin oranges. Authorities witnessed first germination in the the coastal area of Jungmun on March 27. Mid-mountainous areas of Hallim and Hangyeong came in last, sprouting on April 17.

Analysts said that mandarin farms that had a small yield last year will have a greater number of flowers this year and advised the orchards to prune flowers to control mandarin yield.

지역별 편차가 큰 것으로 조사됐습니다.

농업기술원은
지난해 열매가 적게 달렸던 과수원의 경우
꽃이 많아질 것으로 예상되는 만큼
봄철 꽃전정을 통해 착과량을 조정해야 한다고 강조했습니다.
