4. Lawmaker pushes to revise Fisheries Cooperatives Act
Suhyup may become ‘liable’ for local fishing communities’ activity expenses

Representatives of local fishing communities are expected to receive limited coverage for activity expenses from the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, also known as Suhyup.

Democratic Party of Korea Lawmaker Oh Young-hoon(오영훈) pushed to revise the Fisheries Cooperatives Act.

The revision bill will order Suhyup to offer limited funds to the representatives of the local fishing communities to cover expenses for activities such as managing fishing grounds, cleaning beaches and compiling statistics of fishery products.

The same attempt to revise the act was made two years ago, but it was thwarted by the Legislative Office.

마을 어촌계장·사무장에 활동비 지원 추진

마을별 어촌계장과 사무장에게도
수협 차원에서 활동비가 지원될 전망입니다.

더불어민주당 오영훈 국회의원은
이 같은 내용을 담은
수산업협동조합법 개정안을 대표 발의했습니다.

개정안에 따르면
마을어장 관리와 해안 청소,
수산물 통계 작성 등을 수행하는
어촌계장과 사무장에게
수협에서 일정 금액의 활동비를 지원하도록 했습니다.

어촌계에 대한 활동비 지원은
재작년에도 법 개정이 시도됐지만
법제처의 반대로 무산된 바 있습니다.
