1. ‘Zero’ companies move into Jeju’s innovative cities
Only a few local public organizations relocated
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport found in a recent study that d ‘zero’ private companies relocated into Jeju’s “Innovative Cities”.
Over a decade ago, then President Roh Moo-hyun launched a project to develop so-called “Innovative Cities” across the nation as part of a balanced development policy.
A recent research conducted by the land ministry indicated that the clusters in the innovation district showed a very low occupancy rate of only 5.3 percent last month, marking the lowest in the nation.
This rate was even without any private companies moving from the mainland. Only the (대륜동)Daeryundong Community Center and the Seogwipo Fire department have recently relocated into this area.
The land ministry said that high relocation costs and economic contraction in the real estate market are the push factors.
