5. Four Yemenis caught for one-time drug use
Prosecutor’s office suspends four indictments

The local prosecutor’s office decided to suspend indictments on four Yemeni asylum applicants caught violating the Narcotics Control Act.

The Yemenis were tested positive for a urine test, confirming their use of an illegal drug called ‘Khat’. However, hair examinations tested negative, indicating that it was only a one-time injection.

The four Yemenis are known to have filed appeals to the Jeju Immigration Service after being denied humanitarian stay permits.

제주에서 난민 신청한 예멘인 가운데 일부가
마약 양성반응으로 조사를 받았지만
검찰이 처벌하지 않기로 했습니다.

제주지방검찰청은
마약류 관리에 관한 법률 위반 혐의로 입건된
예멘인 4명에 대해
전원 기소유예 처분했습니다.

검찰은 이들이 지난해 8월 소변 검사에서
마약류의 한 종류인 '카트' 양성 반응이 나왔지만
모발 검사에서는 음성 반응이 나와
일회성 투약으로 판단했습니다.

한편 이들은 난민 심사에서 탈락해
인도적 체류허가를 받지 못하자
출입국.외국인청에 이의 신청한 것으로 전해졌습니다.
