1. Greenland International Hospital shuts down
Remaining 50 employees dismissed, left jobless

The Greenland International Hospital announced that it will not open for business.

The hospital emailed a letter of dismissal to its remaining 50 employees on Friday. The letter stated that the hospital has worked hard to open for the past 4 years and is now facing no other options but to close due to “unfortunate circumstances”.

The notification followed the provincial government’s decision to revoke the hospital’s license for not meeting an opening deadline. Greenland Group filed an administrative suit to annul the local government’s conditional approval of restricting the hospital’s clientele only to foreigners in February. The company’s complaint was met with the government’s cancellation of the license for failing to open within legal deadline without a “reasonable” cause.

Greenland Group added that apart from the suit, the local government did not respond to the company’s request for the government to take over the hospital’s operations to resolve employees’ job security issues.

대표 명의로 병원 근로자에게 드리는 글을 통해
4년간 병원설립과
정상적인 운영을 위해 부단히 노력했으나
이제는 병원사업을 부득이하게 접을 수 밖에 없다고 밝혔습니다.

이같은 상황속에 근로자들과 마냥 같이 할 수 없어
이 결정 즉 고용해지를 공지하게 됐다고 덧붙였습니다.

특히 행정소송과 별도로
제주도에 고용유지를 위해 완전한 개설허가를 해 주던지,
완전한 개설허가가 어렵다면
도에서 인수하거나 다른 방안을 찾아
근로자들의 고용불안문제를 해결해 달라고
여러차례 요구했으나 아무런 답을 얻지 못했다고 주장했습니다.
