3. Proposal underway to designate children walkways
Enhanced regulations in school zones may be implemented

Provincial council member Kang Seong-min proposed an ordinance amendment to enhance transportation safety measures for children.

The revision aims to strengthen the safety of transportation facilities and newly designate children walkways. It also restricts vehicles commuting in children protection zones.

Kang pointed out that the number of traffic accidents in children protection zones nearly tripled in 2018 with 16 accidents compared to 6 in 2016. He stressed that an ordinance amendment is a “must” to reinforce traffic safety.

교통안전 조례 개정안을 대표 발의했습니다.

개정안에는
이미 지정된 어린이 보호구역 외에
어린이 통학로를 신규 지정하는 규정과
교통 안전시설을 강화하고
어린이보호구역내 차량 통행을 제한하는 내용 등이 담겨 있습니다.

강 의원은
어린이 보호구역내 교통사고가
2016년 6건에서 지난해 16건으로 세 배가까이 늘고 있다며
교통 안전을 강화하기 위한 조례 제정이 필요하다고 강조했습니다.
