Court to decide whether to dismiss two provincial council members
Two provincial council members will face their first trials on charges for violating the Public Official Election Act during the 7th Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections
The prosecutor’s office sought a fine of 3 million won for provincial council member Yang Young Sik for fabricating public opinion poll results. First trial for Yang’s pre-electioneering case will be held at the Jeju District Court on May 23rd.
The wife of provincial council member Lim Sang Pil was charged with bribery and the prosecutor recommended a sentence of one year in jail. Her first trial will be held on May 30th.
The Public Official Election Act stipulates that an election can be nullified if either the candidate or the candidate’s family member is fined more than 1 million won or 3 million won, respectively for violating the election law.

공직선거법상
당선인은 벌금 100만 원,
가족이 벌금 300만 원 이상 확정되면 당선이 무효됩니다.
