Campaign to reduce island waste

KCTV News have reported several times on the negative consequences single-use paper and plastic cups have for the environment.

Now, local cafes are joining Jeju Olle Foundation’s environmental campaign to be more environmentally responsible.

Todd Thacker reports.

Coffee and tea are being served in paper cups.

Looking closely, one can see they are labeled eco-friendly.

Unlike common paper cups coated with plastic, these are biodegradable and recyclable.

[slug] Jeju Olle Foundation ‘Everyone a Changemaker’ campaign

The Jeju Olle Foundation launched the “Everyone a Changemaker” campaign in March to reduce the use of plastic and disposable items.

[slug] at Jeju Provincial Office

The provincial office, a consumer group, and the Jeju Tourism Organization joined the effort.

They signed an MOU on May 8th to work together to reduce the amount of waste generated on the island.

As of now, about 50 coffee shops have joined the “Everyone a Changemaker” campaign.

With more than 1,000 coffee shops in Jeju, there’s plenty of work yet to be done. But this eco-friendly campaign ? to reduce waste and promote a clean island environment ? is an excellent start to making a difference.
