3. African Swine Fever quarantine inspections start in June
Lethal virus detected in Chinese sausages

The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency will strengthen quarantine inspections due to the recent detection of African Swine Fever virus at the Jeju International Airport.

X-ray monitors specializing in livestock epidemics and foreign insects will be installed from June. The quarantine agency and local customs office will each perform quarantine inspection to double check for ASF virus.

A monitor that can observe both carry-on and checked-in luggage will be installed. It will be operated on a trial basis in May and fully run from June.

The highly contagious and deadly ASF virus was found in pork sausages brought into the island by a Chinese tourist on April 29th. African Swine Fever is known to have a fatality rate of nearly 100% in pigs.

아프리카돼지열병 유전자가 발견 된 가운데
농림축산검역본부가 검역 모니터를 강화합니다.

이에따라 다음달부터
가축전염병과 외래 병해충 유입을 검역할 수 있는
전용 엑스레이 모니터를 설치하고
검역본부와 제주세관이 이중으로 검역합니다.

특히 휴대 수화물 뿐 아니라
위탁 수화물도 감시할 수 있는 모니터를 설치해
이달 한달 동안 시범 가동한 뒤
다음달부터 본격 운영합니다.

앞서 지난달 29일에는
제주공항으로 입국한 중국 여행객이 소지한 소시지에서
돼지열병을 유발하는
ASF 바이러스 유전자가 검출된 바 있습니다.
