2. National Human Rights Commission to establish Jeju office
Local cases to be transferred from Gwangju office

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRC) will establish a new office in Jeju.

Lawmaker Wi Seong-gon of the Democratic Party of Korea said that he received approval from the Ministry of Interior and Security in January to newly organize the Jeju office and finalized budgeting with the Ministry of Economy and Finance on May 21st.

The NHRC will newly open its jeju office around the end of this year after the National Assembly reviews the office system at its plenary session.

Currently, the Gwangju office is in charge of the local human rights violation counseling and investigation. However, the ministries approved to newly establish an office in Jeju to address local human rights issues immediately.

국가인권위원회 제주출장소가 설치될 전망입니다.

지난 1월 행정안전부로부터
제주출장소 설치에 따른 직제안을 승인받은 데 이어

지난 21일에는
기획재정부와 인건비 등 예산 협의를 완료했다고 밝혔습니다.

이에따라 국가인권위는 앞으로
직제 개정 등에 대한
국무회의 심의를 거친 뒤
올해 말쯤 제주출장소를 개소할 예정입니다.

현재 제주에 대한 인권침해 상담과 조사 업무는
광주인권사무소가 맡고 있어
신속성이 떨어진다는 지적이 일고 있습니다.
