This week on Jeju: A to Z, Todd Thacker takes a quick look at a Samda Park Healing Night Concert, that features Korea’s trendy and popular artists and a flea market every friday night.
What happens when a vibrant city of enthusiastic islanders, expats, and visitors come together in a pleasant city park on a summer’s evening?
They enjoy a night of food, music, and shopping of course!

The annual Samda Park Night Concert is being held every Friday now through August 23rd, at Sin Jeju Rotary in the Yeon-dong neighborhood of Jeju City.
Just a stone’s throw south of Jeju International Airport and near many of the city’s tourist hotels and myriad restaurants, this event kicks off the weekend in style.
You can get to Samda Park conveniently by public transportation, taxi, or even on foot.

If you go early, you can grab some dinner in the Yeon-dong area before heading over to peruse all sorts of handmade items at the Monddak Night Market, which is set up in front of the stage and opens just after 6 p.m.
From 8 p.m. enjoy a range of headline performances by many famous Korean musicians like singers Paul Kim and ViVi (비비), the rock band Zannabi (잔나비), and be introduced to emerging local hot talent, too.

And this year the organizers are trying something a little different by throwing a charity drive into the mix. Their “Funation” effort ? a combination of the words “fun” and “donation” ? is selling eco-bags which will help pay for scholarships for local kids from multicultural families.

This is definitely one of the top urban events you’ll find this summer. And since it’s every Friday, whether you’re a local or on vacation, together you can all usher in your well-earned weekend with a fun evening out on the town.
