It has been over a month since the provincial government revoked the license of Greenland International Hospital.
JDC Chairman Moon Dae-rim and previous landowners agreed to normalize the development project. However, the local government and Greenland Group are not likely in the same boat with JDC.
Joseph Kim reports.
[slug] JDC CEO and Donghong-dong residents discuss project normalization
(문대림) Mun Dae-rim, CEO of the Jeju Free International City Development Center visited (동홍동) Donghong-dong to talk with area residents for the first time since Moon took office.
As all of the projects in the Jeju Healthcare Town have been suspended for two years, residents of (동홍동) Donghong-dong planned to file a lawsuit against the province and the Jeju Free International City Development Center to reclaim the land that was expropriated for the project.
[slug] Previous landowners decide to shelve lawsuits
After an hour-long closed meeting, the CEO and residents agreed to cooperate to normalize the healthcare town development project.
Previous landowners decided to shelve the lawsuit for the time being.
INTERVIEW
Kim Do-yeon / Community leader, Donghong-dong
There was a misunderstanding in our part. We will work with JDC to resume the development project.
Moon expressed his strong will to resume construction.
He announced that the JDC is contacting foreign investors to encourage them to invest in the Jeju Healthcare Town, and added that a consultative body between the province, JDC and Greenland International has been formed to normalize the development project.
INTERVIEW
Mun Dae-rim / CEO, JDC
We formed a tripartite consultative body with the province and Greenland to normalize the Jeju Healthcare Town and boost the local economy.
However, the province and Greenland have different positions on the consultative body.
The province announced there were no discussions made with JDC on normalization of the Jeju Healthcare Town and Greenland International Hospital.
Greenland has already filed legal suits against the province's conditioned approval and is now reviewing suits for damages and compensation against the state government as an investor.
Was the Consultative Body Really Formed?
Province “No discussions at a working level”
JDC “Tripartite consultative body established”
Greenland: Administrative litigation against license cancellation + Possible compensation case against state
Unlike the JDC CEO’s remarks, the tripartite consultative body was not successfully founded.
The hospital licensor, the province, and the developer, the JDC, have gone their separate ways for more than one month since the license of the Greenland International Hospital was revoked.

Meanwhile, nothing has been achieved for the normalization of the healthcare town unlike the JDC’s promises made to area residents.
