2. Local NK refugee population continues to grow
Province to promote refugee settlement projects

The North Korean refugee population in Jeju is increasing every year.

According to the provincial government, the number of North Korean refugees resettled in Jeju have shown a steady growth over the past years, from 200 in 2014 to 232 in 2015 and 317 in 2018.

Two years ago, the province opened a center dedicated to North Korean refugees for the first time in the country. Officials plan on continuing support for refugees through various projects.

제주에 거주하는 북한이탈주민이 매년 증가하고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면
지난 2014년 2백명이던 북한이탈주민은
2015년 232명,
지난해에는 317명으로 해마다 늘고 있습니다.

제주도는 2년 전,
북한이탈주민 정착을 위한 전담 센터를 전국 최초로 개소한데 이어
앞으로 이탈주민지원 지역협의회를 활성화해
다양한 정착사업을 추진할 계획입니다.
