Residents ask to unveil violations in naval base construction

The group of Gangjeong village residents demanded an official apology and further investigation on illegal practices involved with the construction project of a naval base at Gangjeong.

Gangjeong residents held a press conference at the provincial council on Friday after the police discovered human rights violations in the project.

The residents stressed that the Navy, Provincial Police Agency, National Maritime Police and the provincial government must officially apologize for their transgressions. They also asked Seoul to dispatch a team to unveil other human right violations and illegal practices during the construction.

제주도의회 도민의 방에서 기자회견을 열고
해군기지 유치와 건설 과정에 인권침해가 있었다는
경찰청 인권침해사건 진상조사위원회 조사 결과를
환영한다고 밝혔습니다.

그러면서 해군과 경찰, 해경, 제주도는 공식 사과하고
정부 차원에서
아직 밝혀지지 않은 탈법과 불법,
인권침해에 대해
진상조사해야 한다고 강조했습니다.
