A 36-year-old woman suspected of killing her ex-husband at a Jeju guest house is now in police custody. Jeju Dongbu Police found evidence that Koh Yu-jeong dismembered the victim and took measures to destroy evidence by putting the body parts in plastic bags and disposing of them in the sea.

Police investigators have concluded that the gruesome murder was premeditated.
[slug] Police: Sleeping pill Zolpidem used
On May 10th, Koh searched online for the term “zolpidem”, a brand of sleeping pill, and secured a prescription at a clinic.
Police believe Koh drugged the victim before murdering him.
Prior to this, on May 22nd, Koh was recorded on CCTV at a supermarket in Jeju purchasing items which police believe were used in the crime. These included rubber gloves, butane gas, and bleach.
Other items used in the murder were purchased online.

Three days after the murder, Koh caught a ferry to the mainland. Along the way she tossed some of the victim's remains into the sea. At a house in Gimpo owned by her father, she further dismembered and then disposed of the victim's remains in the trash on May 31st.

Koh’s browsing history indicates that she searched for 'Zolpidem' and other items used in the murder.

According to investigators, the victim wanted to see their 6-year-old son after their divorce, but Koh refused him access.
[slug] Police: Custody dispute a potential motive
Koh remarried in 2017, soon after the divorce, and moved to (청주) Cheongju. Her ex-husband remained in Jeju.
Police say that a motive for the crime may have been to prevent the breakup of her second marriage.

By analysing surveillance camera footage and interviewing people who were in contact with the suspect, police have concluded that she was alone in committing the crime.
[slug] Police seized 80 items used in murder
Investigators seized more than 80 pieces of evidence, all of which police believe were used in the crime in some way.
