4. Namwon-eup selected as candidate site for Ramsar Wetland City
Mulyeongari Oreum recognized for its value

Namwon-eup, home to the wetlands of Mulyeongari Oreum was chosen as one of the final candidate sites for Ramsar Wetland City.

According to Seogwipo Municipal City officials, Namwon-eup was selected as a final candidate site for the Ramsar Wetland City. It got high scores in all 10 criteria of an on-site assessment conducted by the Ministry of Environment and National Wetlands Center in May.

The Ministry of Environment plans to submit an application of certification to the Independent Advisory Committee of the Wetland City Accreditation of the Ramsar Convention on October. Once the site selection is finalized, a certificate will be issued in 2021.

The wetlands of Mulyeongari Oreum is the fifth ramsar wetland registered in the country and has been recognized for its value.

남원읍, 람사르 습지 도시 후보지 선정

물영아리 오름 습지가 있는 서귀포시 남원읍이
람사르 습지도시 최종 후보지로 선정됐습니다.

서귀포시에 따르면
환경부와 국립습지센터 등이
지난 5월 남원읍에 대한 현장평가를 실시한 결과
인증기준 10개 항목에서
높은 점수를 획득해 후보지로 선정됐습니다.

환경부는 오는 10월
람사르협약 사무국 독립자문위원회에
인증 신청서를 제출할 계획이며
최종 선정되면 2021년 인증서를 받게 됩니다.

한편 물영아리 오름 습지는
국내에서 5번째로 람사르습지로 등록돼
보전가치를 인정받은 바 있습니다.
