‘Homicide in self defense is unconvincing’: Prosecutor’s Office

The Jeju District Public Prosecutor’s Office allocated Koh Yu-jeong’s case to a criminal investigation team dedicated to violent cases. Four prosecutors were dispatched to conduct corroborative investigations.

The local prosecution office will focus on finding out the motive, process and methods of crime, although the body of the victim is nowhere to be found. Officials said they will make sure that she will pay for her crime. They added that Koh’s claim that she committed a homicide in self-defense from sexual assault is unconvincing.

The prosecution office stressed that they will cooperate with the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office if necessary to investigate Koh’s husband and for possible accomplices.

The prosecution plans to wrap up its investigation and indict Koh within this month, as the arrest period is until July 1st.

제주지방검찰청은
12일 송치받은 고유정 사건을
강력사건 전담 형사1부에 배당하고
검사 4명을 투입해 보강수사를 진행하기로 했습니다.

검찰은 피해자 시신이 없지만
죄에 상응하는 법정형이 선고돼야 한다는 원칙 아래
범행 동기와 과정, 수법을 규명하는 데 초점을 맞추겠다고 설명했습니다.

특히 고유정이 성폭행을 방어하기 위해
우발적으로 범행을 저질렀다는 주장은 납득할 수 없다며
필요하다면 대검 협조를 받아
공범 여부와 현 남편 등 폭넓게 수사하겠다고 강조했습니다.

고유정에 대한 구속 기간이 최장 다음달 1일까지인 만큼
검찰은 이달 내로 수사를 마무리하고 기소한다는 방침입니다.
