Jeju wrongfully marked as source of compressed waste at Pyeongtaek Port

The Jeju Municipal Office demanded an official apology from Gyeonggi-do province for wrongfully accusing Jeju of being the source of compressed waste at Pyeongtaek Port.

Gyeonggi-do Province Governor Lee Jae-myung had previously accused Jeju of being the source of the waste last March, and demanded compensation. However, a field investigation later revealed that none of the waste at Pyeongtaek Port was from Jeju.

Local officials demanded that Gyeonggi-do province officially apologizes and issues a correction for tarnishing the image of Jeju and the honor of its residents. They added that Governor Lee’s post on Facebook is not considered as an official apology.

경기도가 사실 확인을 하지 않고
평택항에 적재된 쓰레기를 제주산이라고 단정지으면서
제주도민의 명예뿐 아니라
제주의 이미지까지 실추시켰다고 밝혔습니다.

이어 최근 이재명 경기도지사가 SNS를 통해
사과의 뜻을 전하기는 했지만
정중한 사과로 받아들이기 어렵다며
정정 보도와 공식 사과를 요구했습니다.

지난 3월 이재명 경기도지사는
필리핀에서 반송된 압축쓰레기 4,600톤이 제주에서 배출됐다며
구상권을 청구하겠다고 밝혔지만
현장 조사결과 제주산은 없는 것으로 확인됐습니다.
