4. Local construction industry struggling
Tourism sector fares better

The local construction industry is still sluggish, while the tourism sector has shown slight improvements.

The Jeju branch of the Bank of Korea announced that areas with building permits and those under construction decreased by 35.8% and 38.3%, respectively last month compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the number of foreign tourists visiting Jeju increased by 1.2% in May compared to the same period last year.

However, the number of domestic tourists declined slightly due to more overseas travels during the holidays in early May.

한국은행 제주본부에 따르면
지난달 제주지역 건축착공면적과 건축허가면적은
지난해 같은 기간 대비
각각 35.8%과 38.3% 하락했습니다.

반면 지난달 관광객 수는
외국인 관광객이 크게 늘면서
지난해 같은 기간 대비 1.2% 증가했습니다.

다만 이 가운데 내국인 관광객은
5월 초 연휴 기간 중 해외여행 증가 등의 영향으로
소폭 감소한 것으로 나타났습니다.
