2. Knife-wielding man at Seogwipo hospital gets 8 months in prison
Judge hands down an additional sentence of 2 years probation

A 49-year-old man surnamed Kang was sentenced to prison for threatening medical staffs at Seogwipo Medical Center.

Jeju District Court Chief Judge Park Joon-seok handed the defendant a split sentence of 8 months in prison and two years of probation for causing alarm and threatening nurses by wielding a knife. Kang was at the hospital in April to visit an acquaintance.

The District Court judge ruled that although the defendant's crime was violent and he has yet to make restitution, the court would take into consideration his lack of a criminal record and the spontaneous nature of the offense.

49살 강 모 피고인에게
징역 8월에 집행유예 2년을 선고했습니다.

박 부장판사는 판결문에서
피고인의 범행 방법이 과격할 뿐만 아니라
피해자들과 합의도 안됐지만
우발적이고, 전과가 없는 점을 고려해 이 같이 선고한다고 판시했습니다.
