Prosecutors investigate offender’s plans to distribute

The Jeju District Prosecutor’s Office arrested and charged a South African man in his 50s caught for smuggling a suitcase with 20 kilograms of cannabis into the island.

According to the prosecution office, the man is alleged of trying to domestically distribute African-grown cannabis.

This is the largest seizure yet on Jeju - an amount of the drug can be consumed by upto 40,000 people. It has a market value of 2 billion won.

외국인 남성이 적발돼 재판에 넘겨졌습니다.

제주지방검찰청은
지난 2일 대마초 약 20kg을 여행용 가방에 담아
제주공항을 통해 반입하려 한 혐의로
남아프리카공화국 국적 40살 A씨를 구속 기소했습니다.

검찰에 따르면
A씨는 남아공에서 재배된 대마를 낱개 포장해
여행용 가방에 담은 뒤
제주에서 다른지역으로 유포하려 한 혐의를 받고 있습니다.

적발된 대마는 시가 20억 원 상당으로
4만명이
동시에 흡연할 수 있는 분량이며
제주공항으로 밀반입된 최대 규모입니다.
