First DUI accident in Jeju since passage of 'Yoon Chang-ho Law'

The Jeju District Public Prosecutor’s Office recently indicted a 53-year-old woman without physical detention for manslaughter of two casualties while driving under the influence at Goma Road, Jeju City in January

This is the first case of DUI accident in Jeju after the enactment of Yoon Chang-ho Law, which imposes harsher punishments for drunk driving.

The court previously rejected the prosecutor’s request for an arrest warrant of the offender, saying that she is currently suffering from the aftereffects of the accident and she is unlikely to attempt to flee and destroy evidence of the accident.

지난 1월 제주시 고마로에서
만취 상태에서 운전을 하다가 2명의 사상자를 낸 혐의로
53살 김 모 여인을
최근 불구속 기소했다고 밝혔습니다.

앞서 검찰은 김 여인에 대해 구속영장을 신청했지만
법원은 도주의 염려나
증거인멸 우려가 인정되지 않고
피의자가 사고 후유증을 앓고 있다며
구속영장을 기각한 바 있습니다.
