Provincial council calls for expansion of public parking lots

The provincial council pointed out that the garage proof system in effect throughout the island has defects and needs improvement as there aren’t enough public parking spaces in rural areas and old downtown.

The provincial council’s Environment and City Committee held its provisional session on July 2nd and pointed out that the lack of available parking lots could cause more confusion and inconvenience as some islanders don’t have spaces to register as their garages.

The committee criticized the province for not regularly inspecting the supply and demand of public parking lots according to the relevant laws and thus leading to a shortage of parking spaces.

The province responded that it will expand public parking lots and encourage islanders to secure their own private garage in areas where there is a shortage of parking lots.

주차장 확보 등 제도 보완을 주문했습니다.

제주도의회 환경도시위원회는
2일 임시회에서
읍면과 원도심 지역은 차고지로 활용할 수 있는 주차장 자체가 부족하기 때문에
제도 시행으로 혼란과 불편이 커질 수 있다고 지적했습니다.

특히 관련법에 따라
정기적으로 주차장 수급 실태조사를 해야 하지만
제주도가 이를 지키지 않으면서
주차장 부족 사태를 자초했다고 비판했습니다.

제주도는
차고지가 부족한 지역을 중심으로 공영주차장을 확대하고
자기차고지 갖기를 독려하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
