4. ‘Casino impact assessment is insufficient’: Provincial council
Casino stakeholders reviewing research is ‘unfair’

The provincial council’s Culture, Tourism and Sports Committee pointed out that the casino impact assessment is insufficient.

The province had created the criteria for the assessment last October. Research results were reported at the 375th provisional session held at the provincial council on July 3rd.

The assessment criteria is composed of three categories including impact on local society, contribution to community and opinions of local residents and 9 sub-categories.

The Culture, Tourism and Sports committee criticized that one of most important criteria, ‘impact on social culture’, accounts for only 20% of total marks.

The committee also pointed out that a review board is mainly composed of stakeholders of local casinos such as tourism and casino workers. It emphasized that the review process of the assessment will be unfair.

The province responded that it will work with the provincial council to address the problems in the assessment and review process.
