2. Police chief admits flaws in Koh murder investigation
Pledges to make Jeju a safe place

The new Jeju Provincial Police Agency Chief Officer Kim Byeong-gu admitted that the first investigation process of Koh Yu-jeong’s murder case was partially poor and did not meet public expectation.

Chief Kim said although the police tried to do their best, there were some holes in the investigation and seizure and search at a press conference held on July 5th.

He added that the local police will devise measures to improve investigation processes after the National Police Agency finishes its probe into the first investigation.

Kim also said that he will work to make Jeju a safe place by producing tangible results of the municipal police system and preventing crimes through heightening inspections on entry of non-visa foreigners and illegal immigrants.

고유정 사건과 관련한 부실수사 논란에 대해
국민 눈높이에 맞지 않는 부분이 있었다며
일부 소홀한 점을 시인했습니다.

김 청장은 5일 출입기자들과의 간담회에서
담당 경찰관들이 나름대로 최선을 다한다고 했지만
초동수사나 압수수색 과정에서 일부 소홀한 점이 있지 않았나 생각한다고 말했습니다.

그러면서 경찰청 차원의 진상조사에서
어떤 문제가 있었는지 밝혀질 만큼
조사 결과에 따라 종합적인 개선방안을 만들겠다고 덧붙였습니다.

김 청장은 이와 함께
자치경찰 제도에 대한 가시적인 성과를 도출하고
무사증 입국 외국인, 불법체류자 등에 대한 범죄 예방으로
제주가 안전한 곳이라는 인식을 높이겠다고 말했습니다.
