3. 2020 minimum wage to rise by 2.9%
Hourly wage to reach 8,590 won, lowest increase in a decade

Next year's minimum wage is set at 8,590 won per hour, showing a 2.9 percent rise compared to this year.

The Minimum Wage Commission involving labor and business representatives and experts said the plan for an hourly rate of 8,590 won was approved by receiving 15 votes out of 27 votes at the 13th plenary session held at the national government building in Sejong City.

Labor representatives proposed a minimum wage of 8,880 won per hour, but only 11 voters voted for their proposal.

This increase is the lowest in 10 years since 2010 when the minimum wage increased by 2.8 percent.

당초 노동계는 시간당 8천 880원을 주장했지만,
사용자 측이 제시한 8천 590원이
표결에서 더 많은 지지를 받았습니다.

이번 인상은
2010년 최저임금 2.8% 인상 이후 10년 만에 가장 낮은 수준입니다.
