4. Jeju farmers ask Seoul to purchase more local garlic
Local agricultural industry demand garlic price increase

A committee of local farmers asked Seoul to expand their purchases of locally grown garlic.

The committee held a press conference in front of the provincial council on the 19th and said that Seoul’s announcement of its plan on July 5th to only purchase 500 tons of locally grown garlic is a neglect of the local agricultural industry.

The group asked Seoul to purchase at least 3000 tons from 5000 tons of non-contracted volume purchased by the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation. They also asked for a price increase from 2,300 won to 2700 won per kilogram of garlic.

19일 도의회 앞에서 기자회견을 열고
정부는 지난 5일
마늘 수매비축 계획을 발표했지만
제주산 마늘에 대해서는 500톤만 배정했다며
이는 제주농업에 대한
정부의 홀대라고 주장했습니다.

따라서 비대위는
적어도 농협이 수매한
비계약 물량 5천 톤 가운데 3천 톤은 수매해야 하며
단가도 1kg에 2천 300원에서
2천 700원으로 인상하라고 요구했습니다.
